An Accidental EP

I realized this week that I have nearly enough material to release another interim EP soonish.

One thing I’ve been up to is re-recording a few older tracks.  As Dan suggested, “that way madness lies” and for the most part, I agree, but I figure if Kraftwerk can do it once in a while, so can I.   And I’m stopping at three – it’s basic upgrades of a few older tracks to the modern recording techniques I’ve been using.  I’d even qualify them as full-fledged remixes, since they’re often radically different from the originals.  This started as a way for me to flesh out the presskit with tracks that we’d play live, except since the live tracks vary quite a bit from the original studio versions, and in some cases the studio versions aren’t remotely representative of our particular “sound” anymore, so I tweaked and re-recorded.

So there’s those.

There’s also a remix of “You’re Not That Charming” that I’ve almost finished.   And I’ve got the Club Mix of “Twisting and Turning” at my disposal too.

I wanted to wrangle some remixes from people like TGU or Jazzy B but I can’t afford them (the guy from TGU was super nice…but US$3k is a way outta my budget).  But a few good folk have thrown some offers my way so I may hit up some of the usual suspects for remix duty.

I’ve also got two “b-sides” in the form of things recorded for “Excursions” that eventually got cut from the album for various reasons (mainly, they just didn’t seem to fit on the tracklist right).

I think I’ve even got some live tracks stowed away someplace.

With any luck I should be able to get everything put together and out before the end of the year.

Got a LOT of stuff underway for album 4, too, although only one or two things in anything resembling a finished form.  Scheduling recording time with collaborators is always tricky.   And the double whammy of nice weather and poor health has kept me from spending time in the studio…why record when there’s meat to be grilled and beer to be enjoyed in the backyard? :)  I hope to have that one done by the end of next year.
